Crafting Spaces with Soul – A Conversation with The InteriorDuo

From the moment you step into a space crafted by The InteriorDuo, you sense an effortless harmony between form and function. Twin sisters Hannah and Olivia Davis founded their Melbourne studio on a simple yet powerful belief, spaces should resonate with the people who inhabit them. Drawing inspiration from the natural world and the textures of everyday life, they specialise in home renovation, interior decorating, Airbnb styling and complete interior transformations.

Their signature approach, what they call crafting spaces with soul, means each project reflects its owner’s story while remaining classic in its appeal. Whether composing a living room around a cherished vintage piece or layering in natural materials to bring the outside in, the sisters’ combined expertise and shared vision ensure every detail feels both refined and authentic.

Can you tell us a little about your background and how you got into interior design?
We are Hannah and Olivia, twin sisters behind The InteriorDuo. When we were young we were regularly changing the layouts of our bedrooms and styling them. In high school we had the opportunity to do work experience with a property styling company and that enhanced our love for interior design. After working full time in the property styling industry, we decided to open The InteriorDuo.

How would you describe your design aesthetic in three words?
Minimal, functional and refined. We focus on the unique details of the space while personalising it to suit the client.

What’s one item you think every home should invest in?
A quality comfortable sofa. It’s often the centrepiece of a living space and sets the tone for the room’s comfort and style.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to refresh their space without spending a lot?
Rearrange your existing furniture to create a new layout. Sometimes, a fresh perspective can make a space feel entirely new. Additionally, adding or changing cushions, throws, artwork or lighting can have a significant impact. If you like DIY or op-shopping, you can find beautiful second-hand items and décor that fit your home perfectly.

What’s next for you, any exciting projects or ideas you’re dreaming up?
We are currently on a trip of a lifetime travelling Europe and Asia. There is so much inspiration and we have many ideas for when we return to Australia. Our dream is to help vulnerable families, women who live in run-down housing. We would love to give back to the community.

If you’d like a little extra inspiration, Hannah and Olivia are always happy to chat design. Explore their work on www.https://www.theinteriorduo.com
